Liner Notes

Entering the interior of the Yucatan peninsula seems like a journey inwards. The vast beauty of coast is far behind. The long roads stretch on through dense jungle to the horizon. One moves towards sacred ground where advanced civilizations built massive monuments to the Gods.

Once-thriving cities are preserved in russet orange limestone ruins. Overgrown green vines and dark grasses swallow temples back into the jungle.

Fruits hang heavy in the foliage like the humid air of the Yucatan–redolent of jungle flowers. Crocodiles hunt in the cool waters of cenotes. Natives burn copal resin-used for hundreds of years or more, it reminds us of holy ceremonies. The jasmine plants speak of animalic powder, a shocking complex aroma–like spotting the pattern of a jaguar among a monotony of green vegetation.

Olfactory Notes

Jasmine

The ultimate perfume material. Jasmine can blend and elevate anything it touches. Jasmine grandiflorum is pure class—green, sugar, overripe, beyond rich. Truly kaleidoscopic. Jasmine sambac is more vegetal, aquatic, and indolic.

Passionflower

The flower of passionfruit, with green tea and cucumber notes. A top note of rare freshness.

Copal

I’m fascinated with the idea of Occidental Ambers, as we often associate amber with the east. Since many balsamic and resinous trees thrive in tropical weather, we can find many such plants in the Caribbean, Central and South America. Many of these resins (palo santon cabreuva, cascarilla) display woodier characteristics and would not necessarily be categorized as an “amber”. However, Copaiba Balsam distilled from the resin of the Copaifera Officinalus tree works as a “white amber” with its peppery dry musky aroma.

The Soundtrack

Add narcotic jungle jasmine.

Use as a layering jasmine perfume for jungle floral and sweet floral combinations like tuberose or orange blossom. Pair with smokey copal. Tighten with crisp enhancers.

Add narcotic jungle jasmine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Jazmin Yucatan smell like?

Jazmin Yucatan smells like a humid, authentic tropical jungle after a heavy rain. It combines large, wet jasmine blooms with the mineral scent of limestone, jungle greenery, and warm, sacred copal resin incense.
Is this a sweet, traditional jasmine perfume?

No. Instead of being heavy or cloying, this jasmine is deeply animalic and aquatic. It's a modern, atmospheric floral capturing the realistic scent of jasmine flowers in a dark, misty rainforest.
What note gives Jazmin Yucatan its unique smoky base?

We wouldn't call this a smoky fragrance, but the mystical base comes from copal resin - a traditional Mesoamerican incense that grounds the bright, watery jasmine blooms with a dry, resinous warmth.
How do you make perfume last longer?

How long a perfume lasts on one person's skin is particular to their own skin chemistry, environment, and perception. If you want to read the thoughts of our perfumer on this subject, click here. https://gonzofumes.substack.com/p/how-to-make-fragrances-last-longer
