Liner Notes

Debaser is a cult favorite D.S. & DURGA fume inspired by my preteen years hanging out with cool older kids. Music was the binding force of the group. I was introduced to many bands, but the Pixies reigned supreme. I remember getting Doolittle on cassette tape. Back then, tapes smelled distinctly of grapey-orange blossom due to a mysterious mixture of polyester, magnetics, and lubricants from which they were manufactured. You would go to your local record shop, get the latest tape, and skate home fast to listen. When you tore off the wrapping, that familiar aroma was like an unconscious precursor to new music.

Playing with a perfume formula is like reworking a beloved song. New elements emerge, this version of Debaser renders beauty from the mundane. The nostalgic aroma of tapes amplified with choice fruit and flower notes. It wears easy and gives a perfect spring-to-summer vibration, not unlike the music that inspired it.

Olfactory Notes

Fig

Fig is crowd pleaser. It’s an accord made of molecules that smell of milky coconuts and tomato leaves respectively. Fig has become something of its own genre often blended with green notes, flowers, and wood.

Gardenia

Another flower that doesn’t give up its oil (except via old fashioned enfleurage methods that we no longer use much). I use a gardenia base I built over the course of 2 weeks—copying a blooming plant I owned in 2017 (it died in 2019). It is creamy, tropical, & multi-faceted. It recalls tropics but also Fred Astaire’s elegant lapel.

Tapes

An accord of cassette tapes which has an aroma of orange blossom and grape.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Debaser In Bloom differ from the original Debaser?

Debaser In Bloom takes the wild, humid, ripe fig core of the original Debaser and cuts it with rich gardenia blooms, smooth cream, and clean white currant accents for a more pronounced, luxurious floral profile.
What are the main floral elements in Debaser In Bloom?

The dominant floral element is rich, velvety gardenia, which intertwines with green fig stems, iris facets, and a soft, nostalgic white musk texture. Orange blossom also adds a bracing flower note in the heart of the fragrance.
Is this a sweet or green floral perfume?

It strikes a sophisticated balance offering the wet, sappy greenery of fig leaves alongside the rich, creamy, and slightly sweet decadence of natural gardenia petals.
Which D.S. & DURGA scents should I try first?

IDKW, DEB, CBG, and Rose Atlantic
